When my son's preschool was seeking donations for their annual fundraiser, a couple fellow moms & I pooled our skills to come up with a fun mommy outing to auction off-- Brunch & A Bunch (Of Flowers). Sure, we could have gone out and solicited a restaurant or store gift card, but knowing many moms just want some "me time," we thought a little creative outing would be a great way to raise money... and make new friends. We were right. As the party planner of the bunch, I desgined a shabby chic style brunch buffet. Another mom, an interior designer, taught the attendees about incorporating their home design aesthetic into their floral arrangements, and last, the former floral designer in the crew taught our guests how to condition flowers, open closed blooms, and how to easily make an arrangement for your home. Everyone left with a gorgeous centerpiece... and a new skilll. So for your child's next fundraising initiative, if you have a skill that you think people might want to learn: knitting, jewelry-making, painting...put yourself on the auction block. Your knowledge can make for a great mom's day out-- and make money for a great cause to boot!
